Work in Progress
Join Us in Celebrating Unity. Your Donation Fuels the Global Artistic Movement.
At Impressions of Humanity, we are actively working to complete the next three national flag artworks as part of our Global Artistic Movement in Community Art. These flags, created from thousands of hand impressions, are powerful symbols of unity and cultural celebration.
Current Artworks in Progress
Germany
Our Germany panel artwork is currently in progress but faced delays due to COVID-19 restrictions. We’re collaborating with local volunteers and artists to finalize this stunning national flag using 2,000 hand impressions from across Germany.
USA
The USA panel artwork is also in progress, representing the diversity and strength of communities throughout the United States. Hand impressions collected from various states are being carefully arranged to bring the American flag to life in our signature style.
Japan
We are preparing to begin the Japan panel artwork pending additional funding. This project aims to highlight Japan’s rich
cultural heritage and its people’s contributions to our global tapestry of unity.

Our Story
History
Marcos Antonio, founder and artist of Impressions of Humanity, began his artistic journey at the age of 44. Born into a large family in the Dominican Republic, he began working at the age of 5 to support his family. After immigrating to the USA at 17, he pursued education and entrepreneurship before turning to his passion for art in 1994. His gratitude for life’s opportunities inspired him to create Impressions of Humanity in 2009—a movement dedicated to celebrating our shared humanity through cultural art.
Evolution of Impressions of Humanity
In 2009, Marcos returned to the Dominican Republic to collect hand impressions and create community art panels. Over time, with the influence of mentors such as Argentine filmmaker Fernando Birri and Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez, the project evolved to capture each participant’s story through video, alongside their hand impression.
The Change to National Flags
Instead of standard panels, the project now creates national flags using 2,000 hand impressions per country, adhering to each flag’s proportions and design—an innovative way to celebrate national identity within our global community.
Challenges of
Collecting Hand
Impressions
- Adhering to Flag Measurements: Each national flag must be adapted to a standardized 5×9 ft canvas.
- Mathematical Adjustments: Proportions must be carefully recalculated to fit the canvas.
- Designing the Layout: Each flag is sketched in pencil over 2-3 weeks.
- Selecting Paint: Colors are chosen, shipped, and prepared on-site.
- Hand Impression Placement: Each hand impression is positioned to maintain the integrity of the design.
Participant Distribution
Each flag aims for 2,000 participants, distributed by administrative divisions:
SPAIN
17 Autonomous Communities
→ 117 participants each
ENGLAND
9 Regions
→ 222 participants each
AUSTRALIA
6 States
→ 333 participants each
CHINA
34 Provinces
→ 58 participants each
